Hull alumnus classical guitarist Michael Matthews brings an exciting, varied repertoire to Hull Chamber Music, ranging from the mesmerizing sounds of the Renaissance to the vigorous rhythms of Spanish nationalism. Michael was chosen in 2018 by the Tillett Trust, a prestigious placement that includes performances at Wigmore Hall among other leading venues, and was awarded the Sir John Manduell Prize (Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition) for best performance of a contemporary work.

“He brings a new identity to traditional repertoire as well as verve and dynamism to contemporary and lesser-known works”

Tillet Debut

For some 30 years the Tillett Trust has actively supported young musicians on the point of leaving full-time education and embarking on a performing career by promoting them in a major central London Concert Hall and offering them a series of regional platforms at Festivals and Music Clubs around the UK. This year the Trust is re-launching its recital programme for young musicians under a new title TILLETT DEBUT with the aim of revitalising and expanding the scheme to bring it to the attention of a wider public and to raise the profile of the brilliant young performers we support.
